A question for the knitters

Ok. So I'm doing a cable knit blanket but I simplified the pattern because I can't concentrate enough to count. I am using the same pattern as Sugar's hat basically (which obviously is one-sided since you wear the pretty side out). Is it possible to do cable knit on BOTH sides of a blanket without it looking stupid?

Bad Hippie? Mom? Anyone else?

If it only looks good on one side, I could get someone to sew a layer of polar fleece on the ugly side so it would have a warm and softer side, too, so don't feel like you're hurting my feelings if you say it can't be done without looking awful.

Thanks!

  1. If you are good with internet access, go to www.ravelry.com and sign up. Ravelry is a site for knitters - you can download free patterns, buy patterns, store your "favorites," swap yarn, upload picts of your projects, etc. I found Sugar's gift pattern on Ravelry. :)

You could post that as a question, or just look for a blanket pattern. I would think the cables would not look pretty on the flip side of a blanket, because that's where you'd see the "pulling" when you move the stitches around. You could always go with a simple garter stitch and a purled edge (to make the blanket lay flat); that would go a lot quicker than cables, too! Cast on as many stitches as you want, but make sure you do at least six rows of purling (on top and bottom) and then purl both the first and last few stitches of each row after that. Voila! Instant blankie.
